Gary Flannery’s career in dance and theatre spanning 52 years has taken him from his Bucks County, Pennsylvania roots to Broadway and 5 million miles of World Tours with the likes of Shirley MacLaine and Bob Fosse. A Balanchine and Juilliard scholarship winner, Gary danced with the Harkness Ballet and was featured on Broadway in “Pippin” and “Dancin” with Fosse, taking both shows on their 1st tours, and was a featured principal dancer in the unforgettable movie “All That Jazz!” Dozens of musicals and concert dance performances round out his impressive resume.
Gary toured the world with Shirley MacLaine also performing in her 3 TV specials, and worked in Hollywood with Mary Tyler Moore and Carol Burnett to name just a few. His greatest compliment came from Fred Astaire who, after seeing Gary in 13 of 17 numbers in “Dancin” in 1978, called it “One of the greatest dance performances he had ever seen!”
Gary Flannery is still happily married with 2 grown children, and has taught on full-time faculty and directed and choreographed for over 30 years, including positions at UCF Conservatory, Northwestern, Northern Illinois, the University of the Arts, and Steps on Broadway. Gary’s move, with his lovely wife Deborah, to his 1924 Bungalow in Abingdon, Virginia, also brings with him his soon to be released book and documentary on forgotten impresario George White and his “Scandals,” a massive 22 year project. Check out his website at georgewhitesscandals.com. Bob Fosse called Gary “The BULL!” Nuff said!
